A Stress-Free Build: Peter’s Signature Homes Experience

Peter found ease and confidence with Signature Homes — creating a coastal retreat that’s all about relaxed living.
After years of managing a large two-storey home on an acre of land, Peter decided it was time to slow down and enjoy life more. Moving to Whakatane with his dog Aero, he envisioned a relaxed lifestyle in a low-maintenance, modern home inspired by the coastal surroundings.
“I sold my large two-storey home set on an acre to gain more time back to enjoy a slower pace of life”.

A Holiday Moment That Sparked a New Beginning
While on holiday in Queenstown, Peter decided to pop into a Signature Homes showhome at Jack’s Point. He wasn’t actively planning a build at the time — more just browsing out of interest. But something about the home stuck with him.
The design, the layout, the overall feel — it all made an impression. He left his contact details with the showhome host, not really expecting anything to come of it.
Back home in the Bay of Plenty, he was pleasantly surprised to get a follow-up call from the local Signature Homes team.
“I wasn’t expecting someone from Queenstown to connect me with anyone in my local area,” says Peter. “I was impressed.”
Designing with Lifestyle in Mind
Peter had a clear vision: a modern, energy-efficient home with a nod to the Jack’s Point pavilion style — but with a North Island East Coast feel. The Signature Homes team delivered a layout that balances open-plan living with privacy, where the master suite opens to decking and guest spaces are thoughtfully tucked away. A home office, a wine fridge in the scullery, and a cloak cupboard add practical luxury to everyday living.

Natural and Calm by Coastal Design
Peter worked with his interior designer to reflect the semi-rural setting, using warm, coastal tones of tan, cream, and white. Abodo timber cladding in “Straw” catches the sun throughout the day, while subtle grey bricks and timber accents create texture and warmth.
Inside, engineered timber flooring and calm white walls complete the sense of serenity.

A Smooth Journey, Built on Trust
Having built three homes before, Peter says this was his easiest experience yet.
“I enjoyed the whole process, which ran very smoothly and on time. I was very impressed.” His advice to others? “Have a clear idea of the style you love — I found inspiration in magazines and showhomes all over New Zealand.”
