Wessel & Megan’s Forever Country Home

A Modern Twist on Country Living – The Perfect Estate of Grace
Country living was always the dream for Waikato couple Wessel and Megan. They envisioned their children growing up surrounded by the rolling hills and natural beauty of the region. Starting their search from Hamilton, they eventually found 'the one'—a perfect section in the picturesque town of Matangi.

The Brief: A Home to Grow Into
Wessel and Megan wanted a home that would suit their family now and grow with them into the future. With 351sqm of space, there was room for their children to thrive. Their vision also included a home designed for all seasons—featuring spacious decks, sheltered outdoor areas, and sun-filled bedrooms and living spaces for year-round comfort and enjoyment.
The Look: Effortless Style, Timeless Design
When it came to planning their new home, one thing was clear to Wessel and Megan—they didn’t want it to look or feel like a typical new build.
“We wanted to create a home that looked at ease in its surroundings,” says Wessel.
Working closely with the team at Signature Homes Waikato, the couple helped shape a flowing four-bedroom layout that included all their must-haves.
“We want to stay here forever. It’s where our children’s childhood memories will be made,” Megan shares.
Drawing inspiration from several floorplans they knew would suit their lifestyle, Wessel and Megan tailored the design to meet their family’s needs now and well into the future. Functional spaces were positioned at one end of the home to ensure accessibility as the years go on. Bifold doors open out to a sheltered deck, protected from prevailing winds, while carefully placed windows invite in the warming winter sun.

The Details That Matter
To achieve a timeless aesthetic that wouldn’t date the home to a specific era, the couple chose classic country brick with rough mortar—giving the home a grounded, natural look that blends seamlessly into the rural landscape. Triclad weatherboard was added for contrast, texture, and visual interest, enhancing the home’s charm and character.
