Molly & Brett’s new build journey in Raglan

5 min read

Crafting a coastal haven in the rugged beauty of Rangitahi

Molly and Brett have long loved everything Raglan has to offer. After living there for several years, they decided it was time to build a home that truly reflected their lifestyle and growing family. Their journey began with the purchase of a beautiful section in Rangitahi – a new coastal subdivision set against the raw, natural beauty of the Raglan Harbour.

“The team was helpful, knowledgeable, and their attention to detail was impeccable,” says Molly.

The brief: a home that connects with the landscape

Positioned right on the reserve overlooking Raglan Harbour, it was important for Molly and Brett to design a home that embraced the ever-changing coastal views. Large windows and seamless indoor-outdoor flow were essential. They also wanted natural elements like wood and stainless steel to create a cosy, relaxed coastal vibe.

Starting with Signature Homes’ Toto pre-designed plan, the couple modified the layout to suit their site and needs. The living area and three of the four bedrooms look directly out to the water, while expansive doors and windows in the lounge frame the views year-round.

Design decisions

A large decking area was a must – offering multiple spots to unwind or entertain. To help their home blend with the surrounding environment, they chose dark, hard-wearing cladding with timber features for a low-maintenance, natural look.

Inside, warm timber finishes and a raked ceiling bring a sense of space and character to the main living areas.

Special features

Raglan winters have their own kind of charm, and Molly and Brett wanted to make sure their home was just as inviting in the cooler months. A wood-burning fireplace became a central feature – perfect for cosy family nights in.

After contacting four or five Hamilton-based building companies, the decision to go with Signature Homes came easily.

“The team was friendly, professional, and really understood what we wanted,” says Molly.
